Asia-Pacific Single-Origin CoffeE

Why Coffee from the Asia-Pacific Region?

When Hood Famous Cafe + Bar opened in 2019, we were the only cafe in our region to feature an all Asia-Pacific coffee line up including a rare coffee from Sitio-Belis Benguet in the Philippines. In an industry flooded with high quality coffee from around the world and a focus towards the regions of Latin America and Africa (not that coffee isn't amazing from these regions because they are), we insist on showcasing the stories, hard work and relationships of farmers who produce high quality coffee from our homeland and the greater Asia-Pacific region and the ways they are improving their crop. In many of these coffee growing regions, women are the contributing producers, founders and farmers.

It’s never just coffee.

It is also about direct relationships. Our partnership with Philippines Kalsada Coffee is nothing new or random. Hood Famous Bakeshop/Cafe + Bar owners Chera and Geo, and Kalsada Coffee founder Carmel Laurino, who are all graduates of the University of Washington, sought out ways to connect their Filipino heritage with their curiosity and love for coffee and food in 2015. Hood Famous Bakeshop is the first business in the West Coast to feature a Kalsada single origin coffee from the Philippines as a result of this friendship and shared vision to support Philippine coffee farmers.

Our partnership with Fulcrum Coffee Roasters is local and began prior to the opening of our cafe in 2018. We are fortunate in Seattle to be surrounded by a wealth of award winning Specialty Coffee Roasters, Importers and Cafes dedicated to the artistry, science and community of coffee. We chose to work with Fulcrum Coffee Roasters because of their history and dedication to community.

Fulcrum Coffee Roasters has been instrumental in supporting our Asian Pacific Coffee Program by taking the risk with us when many in the industry looked down upon this region’s coffee. We asked for only Asian beans for when the supply was scarce within Specialty Coffee in the City. Fulcrum acquired green beans both direct from farmers and through Atlas Importers and roast it meticulously in its roasting facility in Seattle.

Fruits of Their Labor

We invite you to enjoy our coffee in a few different ways. We carry a rotation of single-origin coffee grown in Philippines, Thailand, China, Laos, Myanmar, and other Asian Pacific regions. We also carry a Philippine Blend, with our first Philippines Kalsada Blend No. 1 created in 2020 that includes coffee grown in the Philippines, Thailand, Sulawesi, and Myanmar.

Enjoy our rotating beans with our signature drinks like ube latte, pandan latte, and calamansi espresso tonic. We’ve made our syrups in house since opening our Cafe and through popular demand have began bottling them so you can enjoy these flavors at home!
