Supervisor: Cafe Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

FTE:  0.50 Hourly 

Salary Range: $20/hour 

Union Affiliation: UFCW Local 21
(This position is a part  of our managerial leadership team and is non-union eligible)

The Hood Famous Cafe + Bar Assistant Manager contributes to the location’s success by assisting the Cafe Manager in executing efficient store operations. The Asst Manager is responsible for ensuring that the store meets company standards in sales, staffing, product quality, visual merchandising, and operations. This position enforces all procedures in the absence of the store manager and coordinates closely with owners.

We are seeking someone who can problem solve in the moment, be flexible and adaptable, has experience in the specialty coffee industry and retail, and enjoys working with a bakery and food program. Additionally, we are looking for someone who enjoys working with, training, and leading  a small team, detail oriented, and possesses strong communication skills and committed to providing outstanding hospitality. 

Essential Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks: 

• Develops a deep sense and level of guest hospitality for the cafe staff and effectively communicates those expectations.

• Supports the Cafe Manager in the hiring, development, coaching, training and supervision of the Hood Famous Cafe team while ensuring the cafe is up to company standards.

• Supports the Cafe Manager in the planning and execution of barista-counter staff training in areas centered around, but not limited to speciality coffee brewing standards, espresso beverage production, cafe operations-workflow, hospitality and the knowledge around Hood Famous Cafe + Bar featured retail and prepared baked goods.

• Serves as a conduit between team and management, from which managerial directives are communicated and a clear line of communication exists between management and team. The Assistant Cafe Manager will be the first point of contact for all cafe staff in areas regarding but not limited to scheduling shifts, inventory, and guest services with the support of the Cafe Manager.

• Acts as a role model and brand ambassador, protects the cafe assets and facilities at all times through complying and ensuring compliance with Hood Famous policies, procedures for safety, health, security, maintenance, and cash handling.

• Assists the Cafe Manager in the maintenance of current and accurate business, legal, and personnel records.

• Leads the maintenance of appropriate inventory levels by ensuring the timely placement of orders including dairy, beverage related paper goods, and merchandise and consignment items specific and unique to Hood Famous Cafe.

• Identifies and develops organizational systems in the café to keep the space clean, tidy and organized at all times.

• Contributes to a positive team environment and recognizes changes in morale and attitudes, works closely with the Cafe Manager to keep morale high.

• Supports and advises the Cafe Manager in regular inspections of espresso and beverage quality through frequent tasting and provides feedback and suggestions on featured coffee offerings, brew methods, featured specialty beverages and presentation.

• Supports the coordinating and implementation of scheduling for the team, and helps the Cafe Manager adhere to company break code with clear and communicated daily schedules that includes daily goals and team breaks.

• Supports barista-counter staff to prepare drinks and ensures all team members prepare drinks according to company recipe standards.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience and passion for service in the specialty coffee industry or has received a BGA level 1 coffee certification.

• A passion and curiosity in the baking and pastry industry.

• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage time independently and meet deadlines and standards. 

• Proven ability to prioritize and hand multiple time-sensitive tasks

• Proven ability to adapt, problem-solve, and think creatively

• Proven ability and experience in guest hospitality

• Demonstrates impeccable interpersonal skills and a professional work attitude

• Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written

• Proven ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team

• Flexible schedule and must be able to work weekends

• 2 (two) plus years of retail or specialty coffee experience and or experience in a barista lead/management position.

• Proven ability and experience with basic math and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Google Docs) willingness to learn new POS systems, and social media

• Food Handler's Card & MAST Permit 

• Ability to lift 50lbs on a regular basis

• Ability to stand on your feet for 5+ hours

HOURS + COMPENSATION

• This is a regular 20/week managerial position paying $20.00 per hour with the opportunity for the position to become FT contingent on business needs and fiscal health while recovering from the covid-19 impacts on our business.
